What is the Project?
The City of Medicine Hat is building a new electrical substation to support growing electrical demand in the southwest area of the city and surrounding region.
The project was approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) on April 25, 2025 (Proceeding #29734), allowing construction and operation at the previously identified Preferred Site. More information about the project is available in the AUC Decision document.
Construction Update
Construction will begin in June 2026.
As preparation work gets underway, you may notice equipment and activity at the site. Click to view a map of the approved project components and construction access. The substation is anticipated to be in service in early 2027.
