Medicine Hat. Alberta.
There's a spirit here that's hard to explain. Unmistakable when experienced.
At the heart of our community lies a different kind of energy, a pulse that sets us apart and makes us PROUD to be Hatters.
Ours is a community that is built differently.
Our resolve is carved from the banks of the South Saskatchewan River and brick by brick, we've crafted a place where ingenuity grows, good ideas thrive, and people prosper.
A place where tradition meets innovation.
Where the spirit of the prairies collides with the drive for future progress.
Where the days run longer, the sun shines brighter, and the air feels warmer.

We're not just another city; we're Medicine Hat.
Ours is a different kind of energy.

I've lived in Medicine Hat all my life, with the exception of going off to university of Alberta to become a pharmacist. Before that, I attended CHHS and Medicine Hat College (played as a Rattler in both soccer and basketball for 3 years!) I was always active in the community, in sports, in student council, was a contestant in Miss Teen Medicine Hat back in the day even!

So it was a guarantee that I would graduate with my BScPharm and bring my husband with to settle in to practice pharmacy at Boylan Pharmasave in 2001.

    Finally feel at home.

by Nuttynixie , about 2 months ago
As someone who emigrated from the UK I've always felt like a stranger living in another country. But since moving to Medicine Hat and starting a family I finally feel at home. It's a great place to raise a family with so many events going on regularly. We love going to things going on at the library. And since we moved her my parents have also moved here to join us! I finally feel settled and no longer like a stranger. I feel proud to call Medicine Hat my home.

    A Temporary Move

    by MJWonline, 3 months ago

I moved here "temporarily" in 1981 with my then fiance. It was an oilfield move, so that's how my story tied into the energy of the City at the time. I came from Saskatoon and it was "home" for the longest time. But then, one day Medicine Hat became "home". I like the size of the city. We have all the necessary amenities and an excellent art community which has become my mainstay in retirement. Now the City's energy, for me, has to do with community and art related events.

    Medicine Hat? Where is that?

by Marco Jansen, 3 months ago

In 1994, I was working in Inuvik, NWT and looking to transfer to another airport. I was offered Grande Prairie or Lloydminster, but didnt’t care for either choice. Then I was offered Medicine Hat and thought, “Where is that?” I took the opportunity to take a trip to visit the city, and knew right away this was where I want to raise my family. We moved here in 1995 and never considered moving again. The city has everything you want from a larger city, without most of the issues. There is no where you can’t get to in 20 minutes... New Chapter in Alberta

by Stacy Zahn, 3 months ago
I came to Medicine Hat for the first time in 2021 for a family funeral, and to visit dear friends who retired here.

I fell head over heels in love with the landscape, the raw beauty, the walking trails, family activities and all the amenities you could dream of all close by. The first night here I stood in the window breathing in the fresh( non-damp) air looking at the clear skies thinking this is my heaven. Let’s not even mention the sunshine which is critical for those of us with health issues.
after returning home, I had the chore... Continue reading

    Energy Abounds

    by Hrruth, 3 months ago
The different kind of energy exhibited in Medicine Hat doesn't come from Mother Nature. No, this kind of energy lies in the generations of residents who are here for our city and here for each other.

Medicine Hat is a city of dedicated volunteers. Whenever a call goes out for help with City events, , be it arts and culture, music, or entertainment, Hatters always step up to volunteer.

    Our energy is limitless!

    It's always been home.

    by TDanielle, 3 months ago

I grew up in Medicine Hat, it was all I ever knew, I learned how many steps and turns it took to get to my Elementary school, and knew exactly when we were nearing home from my grandparents' house. I recognized the two intersections and the sound of Dad signaling to turn left, that was a sign to pretend to be asleep in the back seat so I could get carried into the house.

As I got older I would hear about people and their plans to move to Calgary or Edmonton, and I had been to Calgary so I... Continue reading

From the warm lands to #330 days of sunshine

    by JaceAnderson, 3 months ago

I like to tell people that i wasn't born and raised in Alberta, but that i moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta the minute I was old enough to make my own decisions. I fell in love with the place, with the people. Here I am all those years later.

And then I connected the dots; that I had grown up in a place described as 'the warm lands' only to relocate to Canadas Sunniest City with #330 days of sunshine. Sun and an over-abundance of independent coffee shops. We are sunny and we know it!

That's a different kind... Continue reading

    Embracing Home

    by damulurirani, 3 months ago

In the journey from India to Ottawa to Medicine Hat, I left behind the familiar and embraced the unknown. What initially felt like nervousness soon turned into excitement for new beginnings. Medicine Hat, with its rich cultural tapestry, became a welcoming sanctuary where I found a vibrant community eager to accept diversity.

Volunteering for city events opened doors to new experiences, introducing me to the city's history intertwined with the resilience of the Blackfoot Nation. This shared history resonated deeply with my journey of finding a true home.

The warmth of the people and the shared stories transformed me from... Continue reading

Medicine Hat is where my grandparents, my dad and my sister and I grew up. It's now where my children are growing up. I enjoy telling them Grandpa's stories of swimming in the pond by Primrose, delivering newspapers (while taking secret paths through the coulees) and showing them where he went to school with his 9 brothers and sisters. My daughter now attends the same school/building her Grandpa attended for school when he was a boy. I cherish that Medicine Hat maintains it's old school ways (literally and figuratively) and that I will be able to show them our generational... Continue reading
