    Kyle R. Franz, Ph.D.:

    Dr. Franz is an academic historian with broad experience in both the public and private sectors.

    As a member of the Government of Saskatchewan’s Senior Management Team he oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation, served as Secretary to the Saskatchewan Heritage Property Review Board and as Chair of the Wascana Center Authority’s Heritage Property Advisor Committee. 

    He also served as one of Saskatchewan’s representatives on the National Council for The National Trust for Canada and a brief stint as the Manager of Special Projects in the Office of the Provincial Capital Commission.

    As an academic Kyle has published in both the popular and academic press, including titles like The Globe and Mail, Labour/Le Travail and Cambridge Scholar’s Press. His areas of academic expertise include Oral History, Western Canadian History and working-class history. 

    Past projects include the Blairmore-Frank Oral History Project where 135 Crowsnest residents had their oral histories preserved and his research has received funding from prestigious organizations like the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

    In his down time Kyle enjoys running and cycling Medicine Hat’s extensive network of trails, model trains and spending time with his niece. He is also a cat person.

    Dr. Franz is alumnus of: Medicine Hat College (university transfer), Simon Fraser University (Bachelor of Arts, first class honours), University of Lethbridge (M.A.), Queen’s University (Ph.D.) and the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy (Certificate, public policy).
