The Illumination Project: Medicine Hat's Gas Streetlights
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on LinkedinEmail this link
Medicine Hat has been known as “The Gas Town / The Gas City” longer than Alberta has been a province. Chances are you’ve seen the natural gas streetlights which line our downtown and are featured prominently in both the city and corporate logos.
This is part of a research project, led by Dr. Kyle R Franz. Born and raised in Southern Alberta, Kyle has worked in both the private and public sector and is an expert in collecting oral histories. As an oral historian, he is committed to ensuring that our shared history represents folks from all walks of life, not just those who were privileged enough to leave a written record. Our thanks to Dr. Franz for undertaking the project and contributing to our knowledge and preservation of the City's gas legacy.
If you have any further comments or questions please contact Philip Pype at the City of Medicine Hat Esplanade.
