The City of Medicine Hat announces the winners of last month’s Power Down Challenge. Over the month of August, 215 participating households reduced their energy consumption and collectively saved approximately 5.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide from being released.

Participants from the City of Medicine Hat, Redcliff and Cypress County volunteered to reduce their electricity use during the month of August. Congratulations to the winners who reduced electricity consumption in their households by 50% in August 2019:

  • Grand Prize winner John Wright, winner of a $500 City of Medicine Hat gift card
  • John John, second place winner of a $250 City gift card, and
  • Lorna Grant, City gift card for $100
  • Ten other participant names were drawn randomly for gift cards of $50 each

“This was the second challenge of this kind and, although participation was down from 2018, we are still excited by the interest shown by participating households. On average, participants reduced their consumption by 3.39%”, said Jaret Dickie, Manager with the City’s Utilities Business Support department. “The total power reduction for the 215 households entered in the challenge is 8,543 kWh.”

All participants can view their consumptions through the City’s eUtility. All City utility customers are encouraged to sign up online at eUtility.medicinehat.ca to learn more about their ongoing power consumption.
