What is the East Ring Enhancement Project?

The City of Medicine Hat is actively preparing for growth and demand for electrical energy. To prepare for this growth, the city plans to enhance its current eastern transmission system.

This plan involves making existing structures stronger and moving transmission lines if needed. These actions will help the city be well-prepared for future growth by increasing the line capacity from 69 kilovolts (kV) to 138 kV.

Project Alternatives - Considering the Options

We have reached the next stage in the project where we are evaluating alternative scenarios for the transmission line. Each scenario presents different options for the poles, either changing the height or relocating them. Descriptions of each scenario are included in the Project Newsletter and described in each of the sections below.

Working with the community is essential for us to determine what scenarios should be submitted for regulatory approval.

  • CLOSED: Thank you for your interest. This survey closed January 16, 2024.

Evaluating alternative scenarios is an important step in understanding current and potential impacts of an existing transmission line on the landscape.

Although it may not always be apparent, the relocation of a transmission line may result in lower cost, reduced environmental impacts, fewer visual concerns and/or moving the line away from residences.

Your perspective on each of the various scenarios will help us understand what scenarios should be put forward for regulatory approval.

This questionnaire is brief and should take no more than 5- 10 minutes of your time. Please click “Submit” after answering all applicable questions.

    *Survey open from November 8, 2023 - January 16, 2024.
