The City of Medicine Hat Parks & Recreation Master Plan defines a City-wide destination node as “facilities or facility clusters that serve a City wide, or regional market and are key leisure destinations for indoor and/or outdoor activities, community services, institutional services and commerce.” While this Vision Plan serves to address numerous Parks & Recreation Master Plan recommendations it also acts as an update to the 2015 South Saskatchewan River Recreation& Leisure Opportunities Assessment.
It is an opportunity to re-engage with our local stakeholders and City residents as we move forward and apply the principles of the 2022 Parks & Recreation Master Plan.
Through background review, an existing conditions analysis, and community engagement, a distinct vision was developed for each of these destinations.
The destination parks include:
Saamis Archaeological Site
Strathcona Island Park
Kin Coulee Park
Ranchlands Open Space
South Ridge Community Park
Police Point Park
The South Saskatchewan River
