The community of Medicine Hat helped to shape the future of well-being in Medicine Hat through its contribution to the Community Well-Being Plan. The plan, called Momentum, is approved by City Council.

What is a Community Well-Being Plan?

The Medicine Hat Community Well-Being Plan (CWB Plan) is a strategic document that outlines our community’s top goals and priorities around health and well-being. It is made up of specific ideas about how to improve well-being for you and your family.

In the past, much work has been done within the community related to social well-being, quality of life, and inclusion. But as the Medicine Hat community grows and changes, new opportunities and challenges related to well-being have also emerged. The new Community Well-Being Plan will establish an updated vision and strategy for well-being over the next 5-10 years.

How was the Plan created?

Three key steps put the Plan together:

  1. Conducted research to understand the current state of well-being in Medicine Hat,
  2. Engaged with the community to create a renewed definition of well-being that reflects the diversity of the community and any recent changes, and
  3. Put together a tangible, forward-looking plan that identifies focus areas, specific actions, roles and responsibilities, and targets to evaluate success.
Engagement reports:
The final What We Learned report is the result of multiple community engagement sessions with over 1,000 participants. For anyone looking for more in depth background information on this project, please check out our Understanding Well-Being in Medicine Hat report.
